  • Introduce Your Child to Lovecraft's Horrors with Lil Cthulhu – io9 #
  • Have to balance Dexter, the season finale of Mad Men, and the Phillies tonight. DVR hummin' and ESPN play-by-play on the Blackberry. #
  • C'mon, Phillies. Time running out. Madsen needs to end this inning, keep it to 1 run. #
  • Thought the Phillies had a chance for a walkoff 9th, now it's looking darkest… #
  • Less than 2 wks 'til The Stories (In) Between book signing @ Between Books Claymont DE. Wendy Ward BLOOD ALONE in this one! #
  • Just realized NEXT week is the Mad Men season finale… Up against Eagles/Dallas. No rest for the DVR. #
  • Coming up for air after a bunch of client web updates and blog posts. #
  • C'mon Cliff Lee – keep the Phillies' hopes alive. #
  • Yes! Phillies live to fight another day. 6 run lead turns into nail-biter. Deep sigh of relief… #
  • Watched the SyFy channel movie Ghost Town… I don't know why I put myself through these things. Still not as bad as Alien vs Hunter. #
  • V, on the other hand, was decent. Little Firefly reunion going on there. With a dab of Lost and a dash of Smallville. #
  • @Dudley228 Must be a touch of masochism in us. That's the only explanation. in reply to Dudley228 #
  • Mundania Press's edition of Bad-Ass Faeries 2 available at Amazon. Includes my story Twilight Crossing #
  • Kids are home from school until next week. Just made a quick website for my 8-yr-old daughter, with her book reviews. #
  • Good luck to Pedro & the Phillies in another elimination game. Would make for a powder keg of pressure on both teams in a game 7. #
  • Things aren't looking good for the Phillies. Their old goat was better than ours. And our bats remain silent. Sigh… #
  • Chase Utley missed a golden opportunity, would have been a record-setting one (with HR), and would have made it a 1 run game. #
  • Sour grapes alert: Looks like the Phillies will succumb to the bottomless purse of NYY. Idealist in me wanted the "team" to win. #
  • Note to Harry Kalas "upstairs": The Phillies had high hopes again, and came within 2 games. Maybe next year. #
  • Phillies: Thanks for a great season! A few tweaks and we'll get it next year. #

  • Supernatural cracked me up this evening. Loved the new "theme song." And the "Herpexia" commercial. #
  • @VR4SmallBiz As web designer I refer clients to you. I dislike that you EXPIRE credits that have been BOUGHT, discourages sales & referrals. #
  • @VR4SmallBiz Many of my clients are authors, who mail around book pub dates. Expiring BOUGHT (not free trial) credits diminishes your value. #
  • @VR4SmallBiz You should wait at least a year since the LAST mailing before expiring PURCHASED credits. Not talking about free trial credits. #
  • Haven't decided if I like Stargate: Universe. Still not sure if I know what the show is "about" yet. DO like the ongoing vs episodic nature. #
  • Just completed a bunch of client web updates, a podcast listing and a mass mailing. Now on to client email responses. #
  • @twignest Yes, it's a contining story. They've been short of air, water, food, etc. and each ep seems to deal w/ another crisis. in reply to twignest #
  • Bad-Ass Faeries gets New York Times mention. My story appeared in 2nd antho, new edition from Mundania #

Party Like it’s 1979: Support a 30 YR OLD Indie Bookstore

The Stories In Between

The Stories In Between

Between Books, an independent genre bookstore, has been in business (despite intense competition from area “big box” chain stores) for 30 incredible years. If you are in the tri-state (PA/NJ/DE) area on SAT, NOV 14th 2-5PM, please consider dropping by to show your support. <indie support rant-mode on> Indie booksellers are the midlist author’s best friend in the business. The best indie bookstore owners & employees hand-sell books to their customers because they KNOW their customers and they know their customers’ tastes in reading material. The big stores display pyramids of bestselling authors’ books and let volume make up for the anonymity of the sales experience. Years after publication, you’ll still find copies of my books in Between Books, compared to the two-to-three-months’ shelf lifespan they are granted in the chains.<indie support rant-mode off>

I’ve known Greg Schauer, the owner, since about 1980 and have been going to his store since that time. WITHER, my first published novel — the one that won the Bram Stoker Award and that Columbia Pictures bought feature film right to in a pre-emptive bid — was born in the aisles of Between Books, where I met and became friends with Joe Gangemi (J.G.), my WITHER co-author, who was then an employee of the store. I also met my wife through that connection. I’ve held ALL my book launches at Between Books since that first one in 1999.

When Greg announced he was going to produce an anthology (THE STORIES IN BETWEEN) to celebrate the 30th year of the store, and that the authors in the anthology would be chosen from those who had held signing events at the store, my first reaction was, “I need to make my contribution a Wendy Ward (from WITHER, WITHER’S RAIN, etc.) story.” I wanted it to be a special Wendy Ward story. The result is the approximately 17,000-word novelette, “Blood Alone.” It’s the longest Wendy Ward story I’ve written since the three novels, and it is a “game changing” story for Wendy.

AUTHORS IN THE ANTHOLOGY: Joseph Gangemi, Lawrence M. Schoen, Lawrence C. Connolly, Maria V. Snyder, Don Bethman, Gregory Frost, Patrick Thomas, John Passarella, Mike McPhail, Jonathan McGoran, Jonathan Maberry, Henry Long, Jeffrey J. Mariotte, Danielle Ackley-McPhail, Walter Ciechanowski, CJ Henderson, and Catherynne M. Valente.

ARTISTS FEATURED: Steve Ressel, Marcella Harte, Nathaniel G. Sawyers, Mickey Freed, Allen Koszowski, Blair Webb, Don Bethman, Brian Thomas, Mike Oreszczyn, Baron Von Reign, Joe del Tufo, Nora Schaefer, and Burt Hopkins

CONTRIBUTING AUTHORS/ARTISTS SCHEDULED TO ATTEND TO SIGN COPIES: Jonathan Maberry, Gregory Frost, Maria V. Snyder, Jonathan Mcgoran, Lawrence M. Schoen, Danielle Ackley-Mcphail, Henry Long, John Passarella, Patrick Thomas, Lawrence C. Connolly and others. (Subject to change)

THE PARTY AFTER THE LAUNCH PARTY: After the signing, local hotspot Mojo 13 will host an evening of music to finish off the anniversary celebrations. The Miles, The Scatologists, and The Bill Riccio 5 are scheduled to perform. Doors open at 8pm. There will be a cover charge of $5.00. 21+ only

The event is listed here and is open to the public:

Thanks for reading!
