If you've been reading with me for a while, you know that I try to save a few of the reviewer copies (also known as bound galleys or Advanced Reader Copies [ARCs]) of my books to give away to my most outspoken fans. These are uncorrected proofs. Missing the last round of corrections. So there will be some typos, missing words, double words, etc. Otherwise, it's very close to production quality.

Now, by outspoken, I mean ready, willing, and able to "spread the word" about the book. For those new to this idea and the contest that goes along with it, here goes: when entering the contest to win a galley, you tell me how you will spread the word about the book far and wide, in person and via reviews on various sites like Amazon.com, BarnesAndNoble.com, and in any other creative way you can come up with to get the word out, e.g., podcasts, web pages, signature taglines, etc.

All this assumes that you like what you read. If you don't like the book, you are under no obligation to pretend that you do, or to post fake "loved it" reviews, etc. Not at all! This is an agreement in good faith: if you win a copy and enjoy the book, I ask that you follow through with your stated plan to promote and review it.

You can recycle your review. Post the same review on multiple sites. That's fine. No need to reinvent the wheel. The challenge is simply to get the word out in as many places as you can think of, so that like-minded readers will know about the book, what to expect (without spoilers!), and be able to decide if it's something they too would enjoy.

FORCE 10 FAN STORM CONTEST: In meteorological terms, a FORCE 10 storm on the Beaufort Scale is a very powerful storm, with sustained gale force winds, causing severe damage to trees and buildings. For this FORCE 10 "FAN STORM" I'm looking for sustained and strong fan support, spreading the word far and wide. That's my metaphor and I'm sticking with it. :-)

Per the contest name, I will choose TEN winners. Entrants who are past winners of my previous bound galley contests will have a slight edge in the selection process because of their proven track record. But there's always room for new blood! Send me an e-mail through the link below and tell me how and where you intend to spread the word or review the book, again, assuming you like what you read. Each winner will receive a signed and personalized KINDRED SPIRIT bound galley and, if you follow through, I will send you a signed and personalized copy of the real book when it comes out. I'm likely to throw in some "thanks for participating freebies" as well.
